This gun was to fill the gap between the 'BB' gun and the.22. It was to be called the Super Grade, a SHERIDAN Super Grade (named after Civil War's General Philip Sheridan, for which his son Philip was named after). Old, at the age of 15 I bought a used Sheridan Air Rifle for $60 and I refused to use any other air rifle from that point on. It has great range and it's powerful. I refinished the stock and owned it for 3 yrs.

They were priced at $110 for the single shot and $125 for the mag. tube repeater...both were .22's (so the amg. tubed repeater used lead balls...they still make them). Should have seen if I could pick up the pair for less than $100 each. were in good shape, the stocks were a bit dull and scratched, but the metal color was still there (not 'blue' as they are made of bronze...so has to be some kind of phosphate-gray).
I have an excuse...althongh after the fact, I wish I had stopped to dicker...I had just picked up a new O/U 12ga. and was heading out of the door.
Besides the .22 and .177 single shots, there were also .177 and .22 mag. tubed repeaters...and a smooth-bore (BB) .177 single shot. Go back farther and the pump system worked differently, pumping the same way, but rtunning a rod that when in and out of the front of the bottom tube.
Go back to the first ones, and there is not pump...just a t-ended rod that came out of the bottom tube...most people stood on the rod's handle and pumped the rifle up and down.
Those early ones had a different trigger system as well. For once the old joke was true: the harder (and faster) you pulled the trigger, the harder the gun shot. A slow squeeze would let the compressed air out slowly...so vow vel....a fast hard squeeze let it all out at once...so high vel.

From Estate in New England: Vintage & gorgeous, original Sheridan 5mm Silver Streak Pneumatic Rifle, still in outstanding overall condition with factory look, but featuring oil-finished American Walnut furniture and up-graded 'MAC-1 steroid tune' internals for higher velocity. Note the round top receiver & solid bolt handle, plus barrel length / front sight arrangement, as well as slim line profile of stock and forend. Satin nickel receiver is clearly marked on right side at breech with: 'Sheridan Products' ... 'Racine, Wisc.' ... and carries serial number '53403'.(See Photos) Left side carries serial number: '467577' along with '5mm (.20 cal.) Pellets Only' ... 'C Series' ... 'Made In U.S.A.' Originally varnished, the buttstock & forend have been stripped and a hand-rubbed oil finish applied to reduce glare and improve the appearance of the original factory Black Walnut furniture. There are NO cracks, dings, dents, or other 'problems' with either wood piece. Usual insignificant scratches from honest use of course. And though externally this Sheridan Rifle appears to be stock to the eye, internally it has been seriously up-graded with a best quality MAC-1 'steroid tune' for high velocity with original Sheridan pellets, as well as the heavies (Kodiacs & similar) with hunting & field use in mind. Where factory Sheridan Rifles were designed to be pumped 6 to 8 strokes to produce between 650 & 725 fps velocity with standard Sheridan ammo, the 'steroid' Rifles will handle up to 14 strokes and reach velocities of around 935 fps while pushing a heavy pellet ... and thus makes an excellent hunting pneumatic featuring light weight (around 5 1/2 pounds) with absolutely NO recoil, has only modest muzzle noise with no climb at all, and will easily handle quality scope sighting. It's a no-brainer really if you actually hunt with a pneumatic and might carry one all day afield. So the bottom line is that there is NO need for a Beeman bumble-clunker weighing eleven or so pounds that requires a specialty scope to handle the recoil & a huge moderator to tame the blast ... all of which you have to lug around all day and try to stalk game with when the opportunity arises. A steroid tuned Sheridan is both still a classic to behold as well as the perfect medicine for those hard to kill targets like jack rabbits, squirrels, crows, grackles, turtles and the like ... superb power & accuracy out to around 45 to 60 yards if you are a shootist and understand pump pneumatics. The only real downside here is that the cost for this rather expensive up-grade (around $100 and several months wait) is one that few air gun hunters ever get around to ... but shoot one and you'll forever wish you had taken the time & spent the money. Well you don't have to because my loss is your gain. Recently injured, I am releasing this beauty from my private collection only because I can no longer stroke this fine Sheridan Rifle ... so it's time to let this one go. I had removed the rear sight because I had the Rifle scoped of course (will include the factory rear sight to winning bidder) but otherwise the factory 'look' of the classic Racine factory Sheridans is all there along with much greater power for those who still shoot vintage air rifles afield. It really doesn't get much better than this steroid tuned Silver Streak. Missing one of these vintage Sheridan 5mm Rifles in this configuration from your private collection of pneumatic hunting Rifles? Always wanted a high velocity 'steroid tuned' Sheridan anyway? Well look no further 'cause this is the real deal, still in outstanding overall condition for the die hard Sheridan rifleman. And when it's gone ... it's gone. Vintage & gorgeous, original Sheridan 5mm Silver Streak Pneumatic Rifle (exactly as shown) is hereby offered to collectors, aficionados, and other interested parties. Get it while you can ...
